C.C. Sabathia airs frustration after Yankees' Wild Card loss

It's not just fans of the New York Yankees who aren't very happy their team was booted from this year's postseason by the rival Boston Red Sox.

Former Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia follows his former team, which he won a title with in 2009 and played with for 11 years. Sabathia was on the team that was booted out of the postseason by the Sox in 2018 and, clearly, is very frustrated that it has happened again.

"Our core lost to a team in '18 that's not even the same Red Sox," Sabathia vented on his R2C2 podcast with Ryan Ruocco. "Mookie (Betts), Jackie Bradley, (Andrew) Benintendi ... They traded all them... We still have the same core. We come back to Boston four years later and lost to a completely different core ... What the f*** are we doing wrong?"

To be fair, Sabathia has a point. Boston's lineup has gotten a decent makeover since 2018, sending big difference-makers to different teams and making room for players like Xander Boegarts and Rafael Devers to take over the offense. Both Boegarts and Devers, along with former Dodger Alex Verdugo, were instrumental in the Red Sox 6-2 victory over the Yankees on Tuesday evening.

It probably didn't help matters that Tuesday's pitching matchup was heavily lopsided. Boston starter Nate Eovaldi was dominant through five-plus innings while New York starter Gerritt Cole better make it through two.

Clearly, it's going to be a long offseason for the Yankees. It's only a matter of guessing what Sabathia will have to say about them next.
