Ex-Yankees Pitcher Reportedly Signs With Japanese Club After Short Stint

One former member of the New York Yankees reportedly has found a new home with the Hanshin Tigers. 

Former Yankees pitcher Colten Brewer reportedly signed a contract with the Tigers of the Nippon Professional Baseball league, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. 

"Former Yankees, Red Sox and Padres RHP Colten Brewer has agreed to terms with The Hanshin Tigers of NPB," Heyman said. "The deal was negotiated by Phil Terrano of Warner Sports Management in collaboration with Billy Martin Jr. of ProAgents Inc."

Brewer had a two short stints in New York and most recently was acquired by the club from the Tampa Bay Rays ahead of the 2023 campaign in exchange for cash considerations. The 30-year-old was called up to the big league club in April and made three appearances before being designated for assignment. Brewer went unclaimed and returned to the minor leagues but eventually was released by the Yankees in July. 

The 30-year-old is a five-year big league veteran who has spent the majority of his career with the rival Boston Red Sox. Brewer actually began his big league career as a member of the San Diego Padres in 2018, but was then traded to Boston and was with the club through the 2021 campaign. Brewer didn't appear in a big league game in 2022 but made his return this season with the Yankees. 

Brewer will look to help the first-place Tigers in NPB as he looks to work his way back up to the big leagues. It's unclear what role he will play in Hanshin, but hopefully he is able to find his form.
