Free-agent OF Michael Conforto undergoes surgery, out for 2022

According to New York Post Sports' Jon Heyman , former New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto will miss the entire 2022 season after having shoulder surgery last week.

Heyman reports that Conforto injured his shoulder while training back in January. The surgery will keep the free-agent outfielder off the market for the 2022 season, but he's expected to be ready for spring training in 2023.

After MLB and the MLBPA resolved the lockout this offseason, Conforto was a hot name on the free-agent market. However, he went unsigned throughout the spring training and into the regular season.

Conforto played 125 games for the New York Mets last season, batting .232 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Conforto was the 10th overall pick by the Mets in the 2014 MLB Draft. He reached the majors in 2015, playing seven seasons with the Mets.

Conforto earned an All-Star nod in 2017, batting .279 with 27 home runs and 68 RBIs. He'd improve upon those numbers over the next two seasons, averaging 30 home runs and 87 RBIs over the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Over 757 games playing for New York, Conforto finished with a .255 batting average, 132 home runs, 396 RBIs, and 650 hits.
