Jackie Bradley Jr. addresses uncertain future with Red Sox

Jackie Bradley Jr.'s time in a Boston Red Sox uniform could come to an end this weekend. It's hard to believe, as he's patrolled center field for the Red Sox since 2013, but it's become unclear if he's in the team's plans for 2021 and beyond.

Bradley Jr. addressed his future with the club ahead of Boston's second-to-last game of the season against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, and he left the door wide-open to a number of possibilities. Bradley told reporters over Zoom, according to NESN's Logan Mullen:

“You think about [if this is it in Boston], for sure. When you’ve been around a lot of people for so long in the organization, I think you start thinking about all the relationships and stuff that you’ve developed over time. … You definitely think about it, and you reflect.”

Bradley was asked if he would be open to remaining in Boston, and he acknowledged that he'd like to stay if the opportunity presents itself. The 30-year-old indicated earlier in the season that he hadn't discussed a new contract with the Red Sox at that point, and that remains the case at the end of the 2020 campaign.

There's no telling whether or not Bradley Jr. will re-sign with the Red Sox, especially given the financial uncertainty around Major League Baseball.

The latest rumors have linked the Red Sox to Houston Astros outfielder George Springer, so it certainly sounds like the club is ready to move past the Bradley Jr. era. However, there's always a possibility Bradley Jr. returns next season, and he'd likely come at a lower price than Springer.
