Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson fractures clavicle against Cardinals

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson left in the first inning of Friday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with what the team later announced as a broken right clavicle. There is no timetable for his return. 

Stephenson exited the game shortly after taking a foul ball to the shoulder off the bat of Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. On the next pitch, Stephenson could not make the throw to first after fielding a swinging bunt. He grabbed his arm in obvious pain and left the game after being examined by the Reds' trainer. 

The 23-year-old recently returned to the Reds' lineup after missing 27 games with a fractured thumb. 

It's been a tough season behind the plate for Stephenson. This most recent injury will be the third he's suffered in 2022. 

Stephenson missed 10 games earlier this season, suffering a concussion after a home-plate collision in April. 

A former first-round pick of the Reds in 2015, Stephenson is batting .319/.372/.482 with six home runs and 35 RBI in 49 games.
