White Sox's Yasmani Grandal out four to six weeks with torn knee tendon

The Chicago White Sox began Tuesday evening in first place in the American League Central standings and six games ahead of the second-place Cleveland Indians. However, there was some bad news before their matchup at the Minnesota Twins Tuesday.

Per the official MLB website, White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal is on the injured list with a torn tendon in his left knee that will sideline him anywhere between four and six weeks. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago recalled catcher Seby Zavala from Triple-A Charlotte.

Grandal experienced the setback when he tried to check his swing in the top of the sixth inning of Monday's loss to Minnesota:

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, the White Sox have thus far posted the AL's third-lowest ERA this season with Grandal catching. The 32-year-old heads to the IL batting .188 with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs across 63 games on the campaign.

The previously mentioned Zavala, meanwhile, has made five career MLB appearances, all with the White Sox during the 2019 season. Zack Collins will move up the depth chart to the role of starter as Grandal works to recover from what initially looked to be a scary injury.
