Congressman Pat Ryan calls out Roger Goodell, NBC over Chiefs-Dolphins game on Peacock

This weekend’s Super Wild Card slate for the first time includes an exclusive broadcast on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock. The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins won’t be on cable in an effort by NBC to gain more subscribers for Peacock.

Many NFL fans aren’t happy that one of the six wild-card-round games won’t be accessible even though they already pay for NFC via their cable subscription. One such fan is New York democratic Congressman Pat Ryan.

This week, Ryan wrote a letter to NBC and the NFL to convince the two parties to put the game on broadcast television and “end the exclusive and exploitative streaming deals for good.”

“How much more profit do Goodell and NBC need to make at the expense of hard working Americans?” Ryan posted on X with a copy of his letter.

“It’s a disgrace. Fans already face exorbitant prices to watch every game during the regular season; they don’t deserve to be squeezed even further by greedy corporations,” Ryan wrote to the two organizations. “This bait-and-switch is particularly egregious for consumers who already pay for NBC as part of their cable package.

“Enough is enough,” he continued. “The NFL raked in $12 billion in 2022, while NBCUniversal made nearly $40 billion. It’s time we put power back where it belongs: with the fans.”

Peacock, which currently costs $5.99 for the month or $29.99 for the year with their current 50% off deal, also has exclusive streaming rights for many of NBC's old hit shows like "The Office," "Scrubs" and "Parks and Rec."

The game between the Chiefs and Dolphins is set to kickoff on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The two teams will be playing in extreme weather conditions with temperatures below 0 at Arrowhead.
