Luke Masterson Talks about the Raiders Defense Overall
USA TODAY Sports

Linebacker Luke Masterson is entering his second season with the Las Vegas Raiders. The undrafted free agent out of Wake Forrest overall had a tremendous first season with the Raiders.

Masterson finished the season playing 17 games with 59 tackles, 30 solos, and 29 assisted tackles.

The Raiders' goals this offseason were to improve on forcing turnovers and making defensive plays for this upcoming NFL season. The Raiders signed multiple free-agent defensive players, Marcus Epps, Marcus Peters, and Robert Spillane hoping to force more turnovers and defensive plays this season.

Masterson shared his thoughts on newly signed free agents in Epps, Peters, and Spillane and how much they have impacted the Raiders' defense.

"They're great leaders," Masterson said. "They demand the standard every day. They do it themselves, which is great. It's great to see your leaders make plays and hold themselves to the standard, and I think they do that every day. So, it's easy to follow them."

Masterson also talked about the Raiders' defense so far this training camp and preseason as they approach the start of the 2023-24 NFL regular season, with a Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 11.

"I just love the energy," Masterson said. "I think every day people come to work. They're ready to work every single day. That transitions into game day, and the energy is great. Everybody wants to make plays for each other, we want to play for each other, play for the coaches. The energy is great, and it's really exciting."

With one final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, it will be worth noting to see if the overall success on defense this preseason will transfer over to the start of the Raiders 2023-24 NFL regular season.

The Silver and Black return to preseason action when they play the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT.
