The Denver Broncos are setting up a bidding war between the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers for their No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Steelers and Eagles have their eyes on the same player for Thursday night.
On Monday, the Broncos traded with the New York Jets for quarterback Zach Wilson. The move gave the Broncos some flexibility not to have to make a crazy trade to go up and get a quarterback they’re not sold on. However, Broncos head coach Sean Payton has his focus on a quarterback they can nab later in the first round.
According to Albert Breer with Sports Illustrated, Payton has an i nterest in Bo Nix:
The connections to Oregon’s Bo Nix have persisted. He’s a player you might be able to wait on until the second round. But, again, Denver doesn’t have a 2.
Denver doesn’t have a second-round pick, but they could feel secure in taking Nix later in the first round if they accumulate extra capital. They’re working on a plan to do so.
According to Tony Pauline with Sportskeeda, Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell is drawing interest from the Eagles and Steelers. Pauline wrote the Eagles and Broncos are talking about a potential swap:
As of Tuesday afternoon, I’m told the Eagles are speaking with the Denver Broncos about trading for the 12th selection so they can draft the Toledo cornerback. The Broncos, in turn, would receive the Eagles’ pick in the first round (22nd selection) which they would use to draft quarterback Bo Nix – a strategy I outlined on Monday. The Eagles have a pair of picks in round two and would part with one of them to move up to the Broncos’ spot.
The Eagles have competition for Mitchell. While many analysts think the Steelers will go offensive line or wide receiver in the first round, Pauline is reporting the Steelers would trade up for the cornerback:
This assumes the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t beat out the Eagles for that pick. I’m told the Steelers and Broncos are talking trade as Pittsburgh is another team that is targeting Mitchell and would move up to draft him.
One would assume the leaker is coming from the Broncos or Mitchell’s camp to drive up the price for the cornerback and the No. 12 pick. One wonders if the Steelers or Eagles can pull off a trade before the No. 13 pick is on the lock.
