Robert Griffin III Says The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Be All In On This Soon To Be Elite Quarterback
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers were the story of the first week of the NFL new league year when they signed free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal and then sent former 2022 first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday.

Pittsburgh Steelers Sent Kenny Pickett Packing

Most of the NFL world didn’t see a Pickett trade happening, and he was supposed to compete with Wilson for the starting job, but there was a good chance that Wilson would get the job, and that’s why he signed with the team.

With Pickett gone, the Steelers will have a new quarterback room this season, and backup quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph have found new homes with the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans

Does Justin Fields Make Sense For The Pittsburgh Steelers?

The Steelers need a backup quarterback, former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III tweeted out on Friday. “Kenny Pickett being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, now the perfect spot for Justin Fields is in Pittsburgh if the Chicago Bears trade him. Compete with and sit behind Russ for a year, get reset and their dynamic QB of the future. “

The Bears took Fields in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was one of the best quarterback prospects coming out of Ohio State. Fields’ first three seasons in Chicago have not gone as planned, and the Bears now have the first pick in the draft. Rumors point to them taking USC’s quarterback, Caleb Williams. Griffen Is Spot On

I agree with Griffen here, and the Steelers are a good landing spot for Fields. Fields has some talent left in him, and he needs to sit for a year and learn again at the NFL level. Why not do it behind a future Hall of Famer in Russell Wilson and an organization in the Pittsburgh Steelers known to get people off the ground and play good football?

Fields could be the starter in 2025, and if he doesn’t work out, the team can go a new route after that season.

It can’t hurt to bring in Fields and see what he has in him and if he can be a legit starting quarterback in the NFL.
