Who should be cast in Season 2 of Netflix’s 'Quarterback'?

Last summer, Peyton Manning partnered with the NFL and Netflix to grant football fans something many have been asking for. A chance to see the in-depth preparation and day-to-day life of an NFL quarterback during football season. This series is a little different than HBO’s “Hard Knocks”, as it focuses directly on the chosen quarterbacks. The series called “Quarterback” featured Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota as it followed their journeys through the 2022-2023 season.

With season one being a success Manning announced season two would be returning in 2024, meaning the 2023-2024 NFL season would be the one highlighted through the 10 episodes. However, the issue for season two is there’s no clue who would be the focus this time around. Multiple names like Jalen Hurts, Trevor Lawrence, and Justin Fields have turned down an opportunity to be on the show but there has been one name confirmed, Matthew Stafford.

There are a lot of household names many fans would love to see but the cost of having your entire life broadcast while also trying to concentrate on the season could be viewed as a distraction, which is why a lot of guys are saying no. With the show soon to return to Netflix it is more than likely all the spots have already been filled. Regardless of who will be featured for season two, here are three guys that would be interesting to see on the show.

Season Two of Netflix’s “Quarterback” Who Should Be Casted

Dak Prescott

Being the face of America’s team comes with a ton of attention, outside noise, and backlash, especially during the season. While there is no football the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott remain a hot commodity especially while a contract extension has been in talks and the debate shows need a familiar topic for peak viewership. Prescott was offered an opportunity to be featured in season two but turned it down, which is understandable considering the football side of his life is already the center of attention for 365 days. Although he originally said no if there was any doubt in his mind to give the show a chance it would be interesting to see what a season for the Cowboys quarterback would look like.

During the 2023-2024 season, Prescott finished the year second in MVP voting and had his best season in a Cowboys uniform. He finished the year with 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He led them to their third consecutive 12-win season but their season would come to an embarrassing end. This would be quite the year to follow the ups and downs for Prescott and his team while he also juggled the fact he became a father. It’s very unlikely we’ll get an opportunity to see him but one could hope.

Baker Mayfield

To believe Baker Mayfield went from being in a position battle during training camp to leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a playoff win and falling just short of the NFC championship game is more reason it would be fascinating to see Mayfield’s journey. When you throw in the fact he had to be Tom Brady‘s successor and win over a franchise that got comfortable with winning the pressure was even harder on Mayfield.

He helped rally the Buccaneers to win five of their last six games to capture their third consecutive division title. He was a finalist for the AP Comeback Player of the Year while playing on a one-year prove-it deal. Mayfield will be hitting the free agency market this offseason and looking for a long-term contract. It’s unknown whether he’ll be in a Buccaneers uniform next season, but to see the rollercoaster ride of Mayfield and this team during the season would be a treat for fans.

C.J. Stroud

Year one for C.J. Stroud was quite the feel-good story, especially for Houston Texans fans who needed a breath of fresh air. From being the second overall pick, to Houston’s hero, to introducing the league to the “Squabble” dance, he had a very impressive rookie season. He changed the narrative for Ohio State quarterbacks in the NFL by arguably having the best season from a rookie quarterback ever. He went on to win the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and became the first player in franchise history to win the award.

This team beat the odds and made the “experts” swallow their words. While only being projected to win six games, this team managed to finish 10-7 and win the AFC South. However, they didn’t stop there, they would defeat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in the Wild Card Round before falling short in the Divisional Round. The transition from college to the NFL is a learning curve but some adjust quicker than others. Stroud is one of those guys who didn’t take long to learn the ins and outs of being a successful player in the league.

It was fun to see a guy step in and take the league by storm in his first year. To see all the preparation and adversity that a rookie had to deal with would be a great story to keep track of. If Stroud does somehow end up being on season two it’s a great chance he’ll be more loved than he already is and would quickly become a fan favorite.
