Filip Forsberg Tabbed As NHL’s Third Star Of The Week
Andrew Wevers-USA TODAY Sports

The month of February is no longer Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg’s most dominant month.

The 6-foot-2 winger reeled off 12 goals and 23 points in 13 games in the month of March en route to being named the NHL’s Third Star of the Month. The Predators went 9-2-2 in March , and Forsberg scored six more goals and six more points than the next-closest Predators player, Gustav Nyquist.

He ranked second behind only New Jersey’s Timo Meier (13) in goals and he was in a three-way tie with Carolina’s Sebastian Aho and Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen for the fifth-most points behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (31), Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon (27), New York’s Artemi Panarin (25) and Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl (25).

McDavid, who scored seven goals, and MacKinnon, who tallied 11 goals, were the First and Second Stars of the Month, respectively.

In March, Forsberg notched seven multi-point games and scored three game-winning goals — March 7 against the Buffalo Sabres, March 13 against the Winnipeg Jets and March 23 against the Detroit Red Wings.

In that Buffalo game, he also recorded his franchise-record ninth regular-season hat trick (he has 10 total counting the playoffs), giving him five more than Steve Sullivan, who’s second all-time in Predators history with four.

Forsberg’s record-setting month also put him over 40 goals and 80 points for the second time in his career. He’s the only Predators player with multiple seasons of 40 goal and 80 points.

The 29-year-old Swede needs just three more goals to break Matt Duchene’s single-season franchise record (43) and 13 more points to break Roman Josi’s single-season record (96). He already set franchise records this season for game-winning goals (10) and even-strength goals (32).
