Former Panthers center extends impressive Golden Knights franchise mark

The 32-year-old continued to impact Game 3 as the contest wore on, scoring in the second period to break a 1-1 tie. On the play, Marchessault picked the corner on Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, sniping the go-ahead goal off a beautiful pass from Jack Eichel. 

Marchessault has been a thorn in the Panthers' side throughout the Final. After his second-period tally, he joined Steve Yzerman and Jake Guentzel as the only players to score a goal in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final. 

Furthermore, Marchessault has four goals over the last three games while averaging a score a game across his previous 13 contests. Marchessault's 13 playoff goals tie him for the NHL lead, also held by Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl, whose season ended nearly a month ago. 

A 10-year veteran, Marchessault played the 2016-17 season with the Panthers before the Golden Knights selected him in the expansion draft that offseason. Now, he's playing an integral part in potentially leading Vegas to its first Stanley Cup while denying his former team, which is seeking the same elusive prize.
