Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi out four weeks with lower-body injury

In the midst of arguably his best season since he entered the NHL almost six years ago, Edmonton Oilers winger Jesse Puljujarvi is now set to miss a significant chunk of time due to injury. The 23-year-old suffered the injury during Edmonton's win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

The Oilers are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference with 57 points and a 27-18-3 record and riding a four-game winning streak. They face the Winnipeg Jets on the road at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.

After being selected fourth overall by Edmonton during the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Puljujarvi registered eight points via one goal and seven assists in 28 games as a rookie. He then played in a career-high 65 games in the 2017-2018 campaign, recording 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points.

He was limited to 46 contests during the 2018-2019 season and put in just four goals while dishing out five assists. Puljujarvi then held out from the Oilers organization for one year before returning in October 2020.

In 55 games last season, Puljujarvi had a career-high 15 goals to go along with 10 assists for 25 points. Through 46 contests this season, he has already set a career-high with 16 assists and 28 points and has poured in 12 goals as well.
