Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the second round of the French Open after a straight-sets win over Flavio Cobolli.

Alcaraz wasted no time in getting started as he served the Italian qualifier a bagel in the first set, going on to triumph 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 58 minutes.

The 20-year-old is the top seed for the first time at a Grand Slam, and the youngest since Bjorn Borg in 1976, and the win improved his stat to 31-3 this season.

‘’It is great to play here. It is my first time on Suzanne-Lenglen and I enjoyed playing here," Alcaraz said after the match.

"There was such great energy from the crowd and I came out with a great level.

‘’It is not too good when losing your serve at 5-4.

‘’But I had to overcome that and forget that. I think I forgot it really quick and I played a great level from 5-5."

The world No. 1 revealed afterwards that his main aim is to simply enjoy being on the court.

‘’I try not to make too much of being on court," he added.

"I try to enjoy being on court. I love playing tennis, and that’s the most important thing.

‘’Stefanos [Tsitsipas] said that he started enjoying tennis [again] thanks to me. For me, it’s great, and it’s something I try to do in every match.

"Juan Carlos always tells me pre-match to enjoy it. He tells me he enjoys watching me play. It’s great to hear him say things like that.’’

Alcaraz will face Taro Daniel on Wednesday as the pair do battle for a place in the third round.
