Napoli Announce to Have Come to Terms with Politano

Napoli ended a secondary transfer saga right after deadline day in Saudi Arabia, as Matteo Politano has officially prolonged his contract until 2027. The winger was targeted by Al-Shabab in particular, which offered €7M annually for the next three seasons, Il Mattino reports.

Instead, the Italian international decided to stay in Campania where he has set roots. Following the renewal, he will make €3.2M annually until 2027. As usual, the deal envisages bonuses tied to the team results, such as the Scudetto and the Champions League qualification, and his appearances, goals, and assists.

Ironically enough, the agent of Politano and Napoli struck an agreement while the team was in Saudi Arabia for the recent Supercoppa. The Partenopei were even staying at Al-Shabab’s facilities. His previous contract would have run out in 2025, so his future would have been a topic of conversation in the summer. The Scudetto holders would have cashed in €12M had they accepted the bid.

Instead, both parties elected to stick together. He’s on pace for his most consistent and prolific season yet, as he has logged 7 goals and 5 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

They need some reference points among all the present and future turmoil. While he’s not dominant, he’s a steady hand and arguably a lot more valuable to them than he would have been in other teams. It’ll be interesting to see how the duel with Cyril Ngonge will unfold.
