Liverpool are in the midst of a midfield rebuild this summer following the departures of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain upon the expiry of their contracts. Argentine Alexis Mac Allister recently became the first addition of the window after switching Brighton for Merseyside.

The rumour mill of further additions is in full motion, with the likes of Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Gabri Veiga all tipped with a potential move to Anfield, however, a recent report suggests that Liverpool could looks closer to home with one addition.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool could make a move for relegated Southampton star James Ward-Prowse, once the saints lower their asking price for the midfielder.

The report states that "Liverpool are prepared to play the waiting game on Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.

Ward-Prowse, 28, is set to leave St Mary’s this summer after the club were relegated from the Premier League but prospective buyers have so far been put off Saints £50million asking price."

Furhtermore, "Despite Ward-Prowse’s age, Liverpool would be tempted at around £25million."
