American WTA player Amanda Anisimova who went on a mental health hiatus, retires from Miami Open at the last minute
Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

American WTA player Amanda Anisimova has pulled out of the 2024 Miami Open over the injury that has kept her away for two months now. Anisimova made a comeback at the 2024 Australian Open after a long break over mental health issues. The 22-year-old had a decent run as Anisimova reached the fourth round at the year’s first Grand Slam tournament.

However, a muscle strain forced the American to withdraw from the subsequent tournaments she was expected to take part in. Now, the same injury seems to have forced the 22-year-old to withdraw from the 2024 Miami Open.

Amanda Anisimova has decided to stay away from the Masters tournament as she recovers from the injury sustained during one of her training sessions a few weeks back. The 22-year-old has been replaced by Ashlyn Krueger in the main draw.

Three more players pull out of Miami Open along with Amanda Anisimova

Not just Amanda Anisimova, but three more players have withdrawn from the 2024 Miami Open. The names include Karolina Muchova, Mirra Andreeva, and Maya Sherif. All three players are out of the tournament with injuries.

Last year’s French Open runner-up Muchova has decided to stay away from the Masters tournament as she is still recovering from the surgery she had on her wrist which troubles her for months and also forced her to withdraw from the 2024 Australian Open. It will take some time for Muchova to be able to compete again. Jacqueline Cristian replaces the Czech.

Meanwhile, Andreeva confirmed that she has been suffering from arm tendonitis. This has led to the 16-year-old deciding to rest and recover fully for the clay court season. The Russian rising star suffered a shocking defeat in the first round of the Indian Wells Open. Camila Giorgi takes Andreeva’s place.

Mayar Sherif has also pulled out due to injury concerns. While Sherif competed at the Indian Wells Open where she lost to Sloane Stephens, the Egyptian ace has been troubled with a back injury. She has been replaced by Diana Shnaider in the main draw.
