Gael Monfils withdraws from yet another event postponing his comeback even further
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Gael Monfils postpones his comeback even further as he withdrew from the 2023 Marseille Open, where he was set to compete.

The French player has once again withdrawn from a tournament, this time the Marseille Open. Monfils has not played a competitive match since August 2022 and his absence has been felt on the ATP Tour.

Monfils has been battling injuries and has struggled to find consistency in his performances. His ranking has plummeted to 210th in the world, a far cry from his career-high ranking of 6th. However, the Frenchman remains a fan favorite for his electrifying on-court antics and acrobatic shots.

Despite showing signs of improvement in practice, Monfils has been forced to withdraw from the Marseille Open due to an unspecified injury, after previously pulling out also from the Rotterdam Open, where he was given a wild card.

It is a frustrating situation for the 36-year-old, who has expressed his desire to get back to playing at the highest level. Monfils' absence has been a loss for the tennis world, but it also begs the question of what his future in the sport will be. At 36 years old, Monfils is no longer a young player and injuries have taken their toll on his body.

It is difficult to predict what the future holds for Monfils, but he has shown resilience in the past. He has bounced back from injuries before, and it is possible he will do so again. His love for the game is evident and he remains a popular figure on and off the court.

For now, Monfils will have to focus on recovering from his injury and regaining his fitness. The tennis world will have to wait a little longer for his highly anticipated comeback, but fans will continue to support him through his struggles.
