'If Alcaraz Doesn't Get Too Full Of Himself, He Can Win 15 Grand Slams' Says Connors

Former legendary player Jimmy Connors could see Carlos Alcaraz win up to 15 Grand Slams in his career if he keeps doing what he's been doing so far.

Alcaraz recently won his second Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon by beating Novak Djokovic in the final which proved that he's much more than a one-hit wonder. It was pretty obvious early on in his career that it would be the case but sustaining success is harder than achieving it for the first time so there was a healthy dose of skepticism.

Alcaraz has been sustaining success this year and it seems like it's here to stay. Speaking on his Advantage Connors podcast, Jimmy Connors previewed the future of Alcaraz explaining that he could get to 15 Grand Slams if he keeps his passion and continues to work hard.

If Carlos Alcaraz plays until he is 33. So, he has got 13 years. Let's just say he plays for 12 more years, that is 48 more slams. And if he doesn’t get too full of himself, I would say 15. That is if he doesn't think he doesn't have to go out and work hard and it's gonna come easy.

He needs to continue what he's doing now and looks like he will. He has that passion, that smile, that excitement, and that feel for what he's doing.

Connors was famously described by John McEnroe as the player who tried the most on the court which is a great compliment demonstrating how passionate he is. Alcaraz is very similar as he rarely gives up on rallies, winning points that he shouldn't have.

One of those quite possibly won him Wimbledon this year and keeping that passion moving forward will be key. After all, all members of the Big Three on the ATP Tour seemingly looked more dominant after 30 than before 30 so he'll need to emulate that.

I say that because there’s going to be some new kids coming up now, you know those who see him. The 16, 17, and 18 who see him and say, 'If he can do it, I can do it too! If he’s working like this, I’m working like that!' But they are all going to find their own way.

I think he has got to start setting the precedent now for the youth. It only depends on what comes up behind him because he knows what is in front of him and I don't think he's afraid of that.
