Iga Swiatek routs Coco Gauff to win 2022 French Open

Iga Swiatek is the French Open champion for the second time in her career after breezing through Coco Gauff in the final, 6-1, 6-3, on Saturday.

Swiatek, 21, was unstoppable throughout the tournament, losing just one of the 15 sets she played. The last match she lost was in February at the Dubai Tennis Championships. After beating Gauff on Saturday, Swiatek has now won 35 consecutive matches, the longest WTA winning streak since Venus Williams won 35 straight in 2000.

Gauff, 18, won five straight matches in straight sets to reach the final, defeating Martina Trevisan, Sloane Stephens and Elise Mertens along the way. But she was only able to win 44 percent of her service points and 32 percent of her return points against Swiatek.

Swiatek won the 2020 French Open at age 19 and inherited the WTA No. 1 ranking when Ashleigh Barty retired earlier this year. While she's now a two-time champion at Roland-Garros, Swiatek has yet to reach the final of another Grand Slam.

The next one on the WTA schedule is Wimbledon, which will begin June 27. Last year, Swiatek reached the fourth round before she was beaten by Ons Jabeur in three sets.
