Kenin, Isner & Sock Among 2023 US Open Doubles Wild Card Recipients
Carter Skaggs/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

The US Open doubles event is shaping up to be epic, with multiple prominent names in the draw, including John Isner , Sofia Kenin , and many others.

It's not hard to figure out why John Isner is signing up to play doubles at the US Open. The American still has a rather helpful skillset for playing doubles, and this is the final event in his professional tennis career. Why not play singles and doubles and give fans more glimpses of that serve?

The event being on home soil contributed to the decision, as Isner wouldn't have done this if we were in Paris on clay. Isner held a press conference about his participation in the US Open but didn't say anything about playing doubles, so this is a nice surprise for his fans. He did confirm that he is genuinely retiring .

He's not the only American player who got a wild card entry into the doubles draw. Sofia Kenin is another player who will be playing the doubles, and she, too, got a wild card along with CoCo Vandeweghe. Kenin has been trying to get back to her best level, but it's been a slow process for the American.

A few good wins in New York could help her finish the season on a high note, even if they come in the doubles. Another player who got a wild card entry into the US Open doubles draw is Jack Sock , a doubles specialist who played more pickleball recently than tennis.

Playing at the US Open in doubles is something he always does, though, so it's not a huge surprise. He was slated to play with Nick Kyrgios this year , but the injuries of the Australian destroyed those plans.

So, who are Isner and Sock pairing up with? Well, each other and it should be an exciting pairing to watch. They might even do some damage with the American crowd backing them. Time will tell.
