Pete Sampras reveals wife battling ovarian cancer
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Pete Sampras took to social media to reveal that his wife of 23 years, actress Bridgette Wilson Sampras, is battling ovarian cancer and asked for "good thoughts and prayers" for her.

Sampras, a 14-time Grand Slam champion who retired in 2002, released his statement through the ATP Tour's account on X. Sampras said she was diagnosed last December.

"Since then, she has had major surgery, pushed through chemotherapy and continues with target maintenance therapy," he said in the statement. "It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this. However, seeing our boys step up and be such strong supporters of Bridgette, myself and each other has been amazing."

The pair have two sons together, Christian and Ryan, born in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

"Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all, has been very inspiring," he added. "It is very hard to reach for support when something is simply too hard to talk about.

"With that said, I will end this by humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey," he concluded.

Bridgette Wilson's films include "The Wedding Planner," "Billy Madison" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Her TV credits include "Saved by the Bell" and "Santa Barbara."

Sampras won 64 ATP Tour titles in his career.
