'You couldn’t even qualify for futures,' Nick Kyrgios continues spat with former tennis player turned pickleball enthusiast as the debate rages on social media

Nick Kyrgios has never been the one to back down from a debate if he has something to say. The Aussie mercurial has been often praised for it but has at times also been criticized for it. But this time, it seems he will be on the good side of tennis fans after he had some strong words for the debate on ‘Pickleball vs. Tennis’.

Recently, professional pickleball player Christian Alshon challenged the trio of Andy Roddick, James Blake, and Kyrgios for a match. He offered back-to-back singles matches against the trio for $100,000 each. He also offered six months for them to train.

To show his cockiness further, he pledged to donate his winnings to charity. Alshon is a former tennis pro and is currently ranked 12th in the pickleball singles rankings. As he tagged everyone, Roddick tried to reason with him and decided to pay no attention to him, calling Alshon’s comments a publicity stunt.

Blake, however, got into a lengthy argument, wanting to prove his point. Kyrgios, on the other hand, didn’t indulge much. The American had taunted the former World No. 13 by inviting him to pickleball so that he could break into the Top-10.

Interestingly enough, Kyrgios simply put out one tweet to reply to the challenge. The tweet was in typical Kyrgios fashion: blunt, honest, and written to fire shots at the 24-year-old.

Bro shut up now you couldn’t even qualify for futures. We will play with you when we feel like it. You got your attention now. Up Miami pickle Tweeted Kyrgios

Andy Roddick shows his class as he withdraws from the debate

Roddick has been one of the many retired tennis players to give pickleball a shot. Although the former US Open winner did it only for fun, he certainly has a better idea of the difference between the two sports.

Alshon initially took a dig at Roddick as well, showing his arrogance on the views Roddick’s podcast gets. He further went on to boast of his college degree, comparing it to what Roddick has. The 41-year-old, however, simply ignored the ‘noise’.

The former World No. 1 replied to a tweet after being tagged, claiming he hates pickleball. Roddick was classy as always in replying and simply put why the two sports are different and why his opinion is of not much value.

I don’t hate pickle at all. I think it’s really fun, and get its value for sure. Simply disagree w someone saying it takes more athleticism than tennis. One of its distinct advantages over tennis is it being easier. I know that’s not as interesting a segment as me hating it. Cheers Tweeted Roddick

It was good to see the tennis pros not scaling down to take jibes in their personal lives, unlike what Alshon did. Nevertheless, the debate between the two sports will continue as fans remain divided on the subject.
